Combi Boiler prices 2018

If this year is the year, to replace your boiler, what are the 2018 boiler prices like? How much boiler will you get for your money?

Different boiler systems work best for different types of homes and apartments – it's important to get the right solution for you and your needs.

In this article, we'll look at the boilers available to buy, main boiler prices, and help you match the right type of boiler to where you live.

The two main types of boiler

There are two main types of boiler – conventional boilers and combination (or combi) boilers.

Unlike conventional boilers, combi boilers don't need a hot water tank. Combi boilers actually heat the water directly from the mains so you'll benefit from an unlimited supply of hot water. This also means it's much easier and quicker to heat your home rather than waiting for a hot water tank to fill up.

They're also much more compact than the traditional boilers – most homes have them fitted in their kitchens neatly stored away behind a storage cabinet door.

Boiler prices – combi boilers

As we mentioned earlier, different homes need different boilers. When choosing a boiler, gas prices you pay to your utility company for using it should be a major consideration. Your running costs will be lower if your if you choose a boiler that is more closely suited to your needs.

What is a professional boiler installer likely to recommend to you?

  • If you in a flat or a smaller home, most professional installers will recommend that a boiler whose output is between twenty-four and twenty-seven kilowatts. Boilers generating this power can cost between £480 and £1,400.
  • If you live in a larger property, ask your installer to fit a twenty-eight to thirty-four-kilowatt boiler instead. If you have three to four bedrooms, this is most likely to best choice to you. If you choose one of these boilers, you can expect to pay between £509 and, at the very top end of the range, £2,740.
  • If you live in a really big home, it's always best to get advice but you should expect to be told by a professional installer that a boiler generating thirty-five kilowatts or above is going to be the most suitable and economical solution for you. The most powerful boilers range from around £750 to £1,990.

Boiler prices by manufacturer

There are a few main boiler manufacturers which supply to installers across the UK. In this article, we'll be looking at:

  • Worcester Bosch boiler prices
  • Vaillant Boiler prices
  • Atag boiler prices
  • Viessmann boiler prices
  • Baxi boiler prices
  • Glow-worm boiler prices
  • Ideal boiler prices
  • Potterton boiler prices

Combi boiler prices and installation

Many people search for "British Gas boiler prices" when looking for combi boiler prices with fitting – it's no surprise as the company is the country's largest supplier of natural gas. However, British Gas are installers – not manufacturers.

Remember too that if you choose British Gas to install your boiler, you may be paying more than you need to. LoveMoney tells us that "when it comes to installation you might want to start with energy companies like British Gas for a quote but you should also look at independent traders too, who typically charge up to a third less". Boiler prices from British Gas may not be the best deal for you.

First, we'll look at the cost of boilers and then consider how much you'll generally pay to have them installed and, equally, who you should choose to install them.

Boiler prices - compare

So, how much should you pay for your boiler? As we've seen, different types of homes require different types of boilers. We'll look at the main manufacturers' offering first then look at the market as a whole.

In our boiler price study, we'll not just be looking at the kilowatts produced by each boiler. We'll look at boiler output – if your boiler output isn't high enough, getting your home and your water heated to the temperature you require is difficult. If it's too high, you'll be paying your gas company more than you need to. Be sure to ask an installer why they believe the output they're recommending for your home is suitable for you.

We'll also look at the size of the boilers themselves. They can vary greatly in size and if you've got somewhere in mind you want it to go, you'll need to make sure it fits into that space. Finally, the flow rate – how much water your boiler can handle at any one time. If you use the water a lot in your home, it's better to go for a higher flow rate.

Combi boiler prices fitted

  • Once you have chosen your boiler or accepted the advice of your fitter on the perfect boiler for your home, you will need a company whose team are Gas Safe registered to install it.
  • This will be an additional cost on top of the price of the boiler. Many different factors will influence how much you actually pay for installation including:
  • whether older equipment needs to be removed before your new boiler is fitted,
  • how much waste gas needs venting,
  • replacement of radiators, and
  • the size of your home and the number of rooms

These prices are guidelines – you may pay more or less but you should expect to pay around £2,000 for a boiler and its installation if you are switching from an older combi to a newer one and keeping it in the same location.

If the combi boiler replacement is being fitted somewhere else in the house, then this will cost you between £2,500 and £2,700 for the boiler and the installation.

If you're replacing another type of boiler (like a conventional boiler) and you're replacing it with a brand-new combi boiler, expect to pay around £2,900 and £3,100 for the installation and the boiler itself.

Boiler service prices

As you can see, it's always wise to consult a professional who will help you select the right boiler for your home. Not only will they be able to secure a boiler at wholesale prices (a saving for you) but they'll be also able to install it for you.

Choosing an installer to fit your combi boiler

When it comes to home improvements, it worth considering to go local. As LoveMoney stated, you can pay up to 30% more for the same boiler and the same service guarantees using a national company than by using an independent local and trusted installer.

CompareCompanies will connect you with up to 4 trusted heating suppliers who will provide you a no obligation survey or quotation free of charge. Each boiler company registered with CompareCompanies is Gas Safe registered and has a year or more worth of trading history behind them to give you the confidence you need.
